About Kaziranga Tiger Reserve
Kaziranga National Park, a well known Indian national park is located in between two districts of Assam – Golaghat, and Nagaon. It has the honor of being a world heritage site as declared by UNESCO. It is spread in the area of about 430 sq km. This park is home to two-thirds of one-horned rhinoceroses of the world. Assam’s Forest Department in its publication of the latest census of March 2015 recorded the population of Rhinos in Kaziranga National Park to be 2401. Out of this population about two thirds, i.e, nearly 1,600+ adults, 250+ sub-adults, 250+ juveniles, and 200+ cubs are recorded. This park is situated on the banks of river Brahmaputra.
Along with the recognized wildlife NGOs, the forest department of the state conducted an operation to preserve wildlife and it has been highly successful. It also shelters the highest density of tigers in the world and therefore it became a Tiger Reserve in the year 2006.
Owing to the growing popularity and tiger protective actions it saw a consistent rise in the no. of tigers. Kaziranga was declared as a Tiger reserve in the year 2006 as it had the highest density of tigers of all the protected areas in the world. Besides tigers, this park offers the habitat for a massive breeding population of elephants, swamp deer, and wild water buffalo. It is also recognized as a prominent birdlife area by Birdlife International for conserving varied species of birdlife.
Flora & Fauna
Kaziranga National Park’s green spread comprises primarily three major types; grasslands on alluvial plains including firstly tall elephant grass, followed by short grasses along with tropical wet and semi-evergreen forests. The plush and eye-pleasing array of charming flowers adds glory to the vegetation of Kaziranga. Therefore, the aquatic flora includes lotus, water lilies, and water hyacinth creating a beautiful ambiance. There are some species of climbing plants as well that enhance the outlook of the park.
There was a survey conducted about the flora constitute in the year 1986. According to this survey, the vegetation of Kaziranga includes 4% is Swamplands, 6% Sand, 8% of rivers & water bodies, 11% Short Grasses, 29% open jungle, 41% of tall elephant grasses.
The other unique feature
Kaziranga is famous for wildlife lovers not just for tigers; it is also known as the home to the world’s largest population of one-horned rhinoceros. The park is inhabited by as many as 15 endangered species by the IUCN Red List. It has major populations of species including 35 species of mammals, out of which.
Elephant, wild Asiatic water buffalo and swamp deer are found in abundance in the park. Because of its dry deciduous and tropical land its forest also shelter Gaur and Sambar. It is home to many known species that are found in the park including fishing cat, ceopards and Jungle cat. One can also get the glimpse of Small Indian Mangoose, Gray Mangoose, Hispid Hare, Golden Jackal, Bengal Fox, Sloth Bear, Civets, Chinese Pangolin and Indian Pangolins etc. in the park.
About Nameri
Nameri National Park is located in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas in the Sonitpur District of Assam, India, about 40 kilometres from Tezpur and the third national park in Assam. The Pakhui (Pakke) Sanctuary of Arunachal Pradesh adjoins the Park on its North-Eastern point. Together they constitute an area of over 1000 km 2 of semi-evergreen, moist deciduous forests with cane and bamboo brakes and narrow strips of open grassland along rivers. Nameri is a birder’s paradise with over 300 species of birds.
The area is criss-crossed by the river Jia- Bhoroli and its tributaries namely the Diji, Dinai, Doigurung, Nameri, Dikorai, Khari etc. A few jheels (during the rainy seasons) also dot the area. The inaccessibility and continuity with the neibouring forest areas have helped the wildlife of Nameri to flourish. There is a good prey base in the form of Sambar, Barking deer, Hog Deer, Wild Boar and Gaur. About 3000 domestic cattle also form part of this prey base for Tiger and Leopards.
Nameri and Sonai-Rupai are only Protected Areas in the North Bank of the Brahmaputra in the Civil District of Sonitpur.
About Majuli
Majuli is a lush green environment-friendly, a pristine and pollution-free freshwater island in the river Brahmaputra, just 20 km from the Jorhat city and located 347 Kms from Guwahati. With a total area of 1250 sq. km, Majuli is the world’s largest river island and it attracts tourists from all over the world. Among one of the most surreal places in India, Majuli is also a strong contender for a place in UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. Mostly inhabited by Tribals, the culture of Majuli is unique and quite interesting and is one of the key reasons why people love this place so much. It is also called the cultural capital of Assam. The festivals celebrated here are all joyous and vibrant. The main festival in the town of Majuli is called Raas and it is an exciting and interesting spectacle.
Day 1:
Guwahati Airport – Kaziranga Tiger Reserve
On arrival at the Guwahati airport/ railway station for this wildlife journey. After reaching, you will be taken to Kaziranga, which is around 250 kms from Airport and takes around 5-6 hours to reach and 220 kms from railway station and takes around 4 – 5 hours to reach. After reaching, you will be check-in at the pre-booked hotel/resort/Lodge and take some rest. After lunch, you will leave for a safari ride into the jungles of KazirangaTigerReserve. After the safari, back to the hotel/resort/lodge, Have dinner. Overnight stay at resort/hotel/Lodge.
Day 2 – 3:
Kaziranga TigerReserve
We will leave for the morning safari, early morning safaris have more chances for sighting the animals. You explore the fauna and flora of the National Park. This safari lasts for around three hours, then return to the hotel/resort/lodge. Then freshen up, have breakfast, and rest for a few hours. After lunch, you will leave for another afternoon safari. After the safari, return to the Resort/Hotel/Lodge to relax. Enjoy the delicious dinner and overnight stay at the hotel/resort/lodge.
Day 4:
Kaziranga TigerReserve
In this morning, We will leave for the Gibbon Sanctuary. This safari lasts for around three hours, then return to the hotel/resort/lodge. Then freshen up, have breakfast, and rest for a few hours. After lunch, you will leave for another afternoon safari. After the safari, return to the Resort/Hotel/Lodge to relax. Enjoy the delicious dinner and overnight stay at the hotel/resort/lodge.
Day 5:
Kaziranga to Majuli
Freshen up, Have breakfast then check out form Resort/Hotel/Lodge and then leave Majuli Island (Drive from Karizanga to Nimati Ghat (120 kms, 3 hrs drive) then take a ferry from Ghat (duration 1 hr 30 min) to Majuli. After reaching Majuli, check in at hotel, then sightseeing tour at Majuli. After sightseeing, have dinner and retire for the day.
Day 6:
Majuli to Nameri
Freshen up, have breakfast then check out from hotel and then leave for Nameri (7 hrs drive). After reaching at Nameri, Check in at Camp, have dinner and overnight stay at hotel
Day 7:
Nameri
This morning we will go on a fascinating river rafting on Jia Bhoroli River. For the same we will drive 25 kms from the resort towards the river upstream, from where we will enjoy the downstream rafting on the inflatable raft. Here we will have a chance to see a lot of migratory waterfowl and if you are so lucky then one can even spot the Royal Bengal Tiger and the Elephant on the banks of the river from the boat. The 13 km stretch of rafting will takes around three hours.
After the river rafting return to the camp site for lunch. After lunch we will go on a nature trail along the reserve. Here we will be accompanied with the knowledgeable forest guides and armed forest guards. The forest treks are the best way to explore the Nameri National Park as it allows you to get very close to the wildlife life. Here once can spot the rare species of white-winged wood ducks and the great hornbills.
Day 8:
Nameri – Guwahati Airport
After breakfast check out from the camp and leave for Guwahati. Upon arrival in Guwahati city we will transit to airport / railway station for onward connection.
