Located in the Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh, Satpura National Park lies in the Mahadeo Hills of the Satpura range and is an ideal destination for anyone who is a keen wildlife enthusiast. Satpura National Park is less known than other sanctuaries like Kanha, Panna, Pench and Tadoba, however with magnificent unspoilt forest and a much more balanced array of wildlife, this is an absolute gem of a park. It is a great place to be one with nature because the fascinating cascading waterfalls, deep valleys, dense forests, narrow gorges, perennial streams and rich vegetation of the park represent nature at its best. Situated in the southern parts of the Central Indian Highlands of Madhya Pradesh, The terrain of the national park is extremely rugged. Satpura National Park offers different/various activities like boat safaris, elephant rides, guided walks, jeep safaris as well as night time safaris in the buffer forest.

The park’s name is derived from the Satpura range where the altitude ranges from 300 to 1,352 metres, having Dhupgarh peak as high as 1,352 metres which is the highest point located in Pachmarhi (popularly known as Queen of Satpura). Although tiger sightings are not common, however birding is excellent in and around the park. While driving through the forest, you may come across the shy and elusive barking deer. Recently, some Barasingha as well as some Bengal tigers have been relocated here from Kanha National Park. Being shy & wary, and not used to the human beings, several other species of the park are mostly seen in fleeting glimpses. Satpura National Park is an ideal destination for those who want to spend time far away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities and who are looking for a wildlife holiday to see the wilderness in central India.

Flora of national park includes teak, sal, tendu, mahua (Indian butter-tree), bel (stone-apple), bamboos, grasses, bushes, unchecked grown lantanas and other many medicinal plants whose details are not available now. It is said that in majority of jungle we can judge that sal is the prominent flora of National Park.

Being a part of unique eco-system, Satpura National Park is very rich in bio-diversity. Its fauna comprises Spotted Dear, Indian Bison(Gaur), Tigers, Leopards, Wild boar, Wild dog (locally called Dholes), Sloth bear, Black buck (unique attraction), Porcupine, Sambhar, four Horned antelopes (Chowsingha), Smooth otter, Pangolin, Marsh crocodile, Languars etc. Indian Giant squirrel is the special feature of Satpura National Park as it is rare in India now. Sighting of Leopards, Gaurs, Wild Dog, Sloth Bear is good in compare to other national parks of Central India. Bird-watching in Satpura National Park is great. Here very frequently we can see variety of birds during stay and safari. Tiger sighting of this national park is not so impressive as compare to nearby Bandhavgarh, Kanha or Pench national parks.
